Books on Reconstruction Era and Election of 1876

Hello Marshall and Saagar, Not only do I value your insights on current affairs but I take note of your book recommendations. I have been listening to Chernow's Grant biography. Aside from Grant's rise to Union General, hearing about his role during Reconstruction makes me want to learn more about the era, which of course ended with the 1876 election. Just to link 1876 with current politics, there was the recent article transcribing Ross Douthat's conversation with J.D. Vance. Vance draws parallels between the 1876 election and that of 2020, in support of the efforts to put forth alternate slates of electors. Given that a typical U.S. History class more or less glosses over this era, I would appreciate any recommendations on further reading that you guys might have.

Do you guys follow Trump's social media?

For the first time ever I took a peek at his truth social page and it's pretty deranged. A Father's Day message where he calls half the country deranged... Agreeing to put ten Commandments in more than just public schools... Automatic posts about presidential immunity.. If I saw more of this it wouldn't completely turn me off from that man and because I feel like it's not on CNN or on Twitter it gets no coverage. Do you guys have a truth account? After reading some of the stuff he's posting I don't know how anyone can claims he is good at politics.

Title 9 Question

I work for a public school in Ohio and had to do my yearly trainings, one if them included Title 9 which I heard was controversial, and after taking the training I don't get what's so bad seems common sense stuff. My boss the Assistant Superintendent is the Title 9 contact for the district and I bluntly asked him what the drama was and was told "Title 9 means we cant discriminate against children for Gender, Race, etc". I don't get what's bad about this, even if I don't buy the whole gender identity issue I still don't think a school should discriminate against a child and deny an education and receive Tax funding

NY 16 race

The consensus on the left after Jamaal Bowman’s democratic primary loss is that AIPAC stole the seat by spending $14.5 million dollars against him. Does this ignore that he may not have been popular in NY 16 and that the voters had 4 years to get to know him?

Present and Future

In lieu of the Biden step down debate what are the major factions currently jostling for control of the Democratic party? And do you think the Democratic party will look more similar or different by 2026?
